Speech and Language Pathology Program
Our speech language pathologists (SLPs) provide specialized care to improve communication, cognition, voice, feeding and swallowing for adults and children with neurological and developmental conditions. Our specially trained therapists work with a variety of neurological diagnoses such as brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, neuromuscular diseases, neurological diseases, as well as autism, dysphasia or swallowing disorder, aphasia or speech disorder, or developmental disability.

How We Treat
Our speech-language pathologists (SLPs) specialize in diagnosing, treating, and preventing speech, language, and communication disorders in both children and adults. Additionally, our Swallowing Clinic addresses feeding and swallowing disorders for all ages. Through comprehensive evaluations and specialized testing, we identify specific issues and develop tailored treatment plans to meet your needs.
Evaluations:
Our SLPs diagnose and treat speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults through comprehensive evaluations, including case histories and specialized testing. We adopt a patient-centered approach to set targeted goals that enhance function, independence, and quality of life.Treatment:
You'll work one-on-one with our SLPs to achieve your goals through tailored exercises, strategies, and tools. We provide education with real-life situations for you and your caregivers, focusing on enhancing communication, minimizing memory and attention errors, and ensuring safe and functional feeding and swallowing.Adaptive Equipment:
We offer personalized assessment and training for various Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices for you and your caregivers. Our large lending library of AAC devices are available at no cost to individuals in Connecticut to aid in speech and communication.
Program Highlights
- SPEAK OUT!® Therapy Program, developed by Parkinson Voice Project, helps people with Parkinson’s regain and retain their speech and swallowing.
- SLP-led Communication Groups helps you practice previously learned skills with other individuals.
- We work with specialized equipment to analyze voice production and to provide biofeedback.
- We offer comprehensive swallowing assessments and treatments, including Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) testing, Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) testing, and advanced biofeedback and strengthening tools through sEMG technology.
- Pediatric SLPs work to improve oral motor skills for feeding and swallowing as well as increasing the variety of foods for children through play-based sessions and functional activities.
- We work closely with physical and occupational therapy teams to provide you with comprehensive care that addresses all aspects of your well-being.
Admissions
Once a prescription from a physician is received, a thorough evaluation is completed. We work in partnership with you and your doctor to coordinate your care to achieve the highest results.
