Muscular Dystrophy Center of Excellence

Muscular Dystrophy Program

Designated MDA Care Center by the Muscular Dystrophy Association

Our Muscular Dystrophy (MD) program provides care for both children and adults who have muscular dystrophy (MD) and other muscle-related diseases, including spinal muscular atrophy and charcot-marie-tooth neuropathies. We provide diagnostic, genetic and rehabilitation services to treat you or your child’s muscle-related diseases. Through the multidisciplinary work our team provides, we help you remain home as long as possible. For when intensive care is needed, we treat on an inpatient basis.

How We Treat

Muscular dystrophy is a life changing disease. Without a cure, our goal is to help you remain as independent as possible so with modification you can continue doing the things you love. Our multidisciplinary team designs a treatment plan to address the symptomatic, physical and emotional factors of your disease. Through symptomatic treatments, medication assessment and management when possible, therapy, and education, we make sure you or your child live life to the fullest.

  • Individual and group recreational activities are offered as well as occupational, speech and language, and physical therapy as needed.

  • If you require a ventilator, or other breathing device, we work to manage your ventilator or wean you from your dependence when possible.

  • Our staff will teach you about your or your child’s muscular dystrophy, assess and correct movement and activity, and help you to manage self-care at home.
