Aquatic Therapy and Rehabilitative Care – Services resume
The health and safety of our patients, community and staff remain our first priority. We have monitored State of Connecticut re-opening plans carefully and are working to achieve a balanced approach to safely re-open services, beginning with therapy and rehabilitative care. Hospital for Special Care’s Aquatic and Fitness Center has reopened for scheduled outpatient and aquatic therapy services for patients.
Community Access – Coming this fall
As we navigate this first reopening phase, we will continue to monitor State guidelines regarding capacity limits to determine the best path to open the center to our community members. In the meantime the collection of monthly membership dues continues to be suspended. Members who have paid in full will have the end date of their membership adjusted to reflect the days the center was closed.
We understand during these difficult and uncertain times you may have additional questions regarding operations and membership. Your questions are important to us and we thank you in advance for your patience as we do our best to reply to your messages.
Our Aquatic and Fitness Center is a beautiful, 27,000 square foot facility featuring two indoor pools, a fitness center and strength training room. Those rehabilitating after an injury or those looking to build strength and improve overall health and wellness are able to use the fully accessible facility. Membership is open to the community.
Our therapy 92 degree warm-water pool is a special purpose pool designed to help reduce pain during and after aquatic therapy and is open to members with special health needs. Our 84-degree fitness pool features a recreational swim area and lap lanes open to all members. Both the therapy and fitness pools offer accessibility via chair lift, transfer wall, and stair and ladder entrances. In addition, a zero-depth ramp is available in our therapy pool.
The fitness center features cardiovascular and strength-training equipment designed to improve aerobic endurance, muscular strength and flexibility. Much of our equipment is specifically designed for ease of use by individuals living with disabilities.
