Hospital for Special Care Ivan Lendl Golf Classic Raises $120,000 for Adaptive Sports
May 26, 2022NEW BRITAIN, CT – The 27th annual Hospital for Special Care (HFSC) Ivan Lendl Golf Classic met its goal, raising more than $120,000 in net revenue to support athletic programs for children, adolescents and adults. The tournament took place May 9, 2022 at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell. Sponsors, including, Platinum sponsors Kaestle Boos Associates, Inc., and Webster Bank allow HFSC to provide the adaptive sports program and camp to participants at no cost.
“Adaptive sports and recreation allow individuals living with disabilities to build skills, confidence and friendships,” says Lynn Ricci, President and CEO of HFSC, “Thanks to our sponsors, we continue to offer accessible sports and recreation opportunities for young athletes, at a time it is needed most.”The Hospital for Special Care Ivan Lendl Adaptive Sports Camp is a day camp offered annually for youth ages 6-19 living with physical disabilities. Campers are provided instruction in a variety of adaptive sports. Specialized adaptive equipment, including sport wheelchairs, allow for individualized accommodation to meet variable levels of independence and ability. Year-round adaptive sports programs at HFSC give both children and adults the opportunity to participate in both competitive and recreational sports and fitness programs.
Jonathan Slifka, from West Hartford, Executive Assistant to the Commissioner of the Connecticut State Department of Aging and Disability Services, returned as the event’s honorary chair. “Our deepest gratitude to Ivan Lendl, Bob Maxon, and all of the sponsors and players who have continued to believe in my family’s vision for an adaptive sports camp,” says Slifka, “Together, we continue to rebuild lives.”
