Tom Dore’s Run the Runway 5K to Benefit Hospital for Special Care ALS Center of Excellence

June 1, 2022

NEW BRITAIN, CT – Tom Dore’s Run the Runway 5K will benefit Hospital for Special Care (HFSC) ALS Center of Excellence this year.

The event will take place June 17, 2022 at Ellington Airport in Ellington, CT. Same day registration is from 3:00 – 6:15 pm, and the 5K starts at 6:30 pm. Participation is limited to the first 400 runners who register. Connecticut Parachutists Inc. will be open at 12:00 pm and will be operating until race time. Individuals are encouraged to come out early to picnic, hike, register to make a tandem skydive or just have fun observing jump demonstrations.

Tom Dore fought a courageous battle against ALS in 2017. His friends at Connecticut Parachutists honor his legacy with this charity 5K; the funds benefitting ALS Charities. “ALS is a devastating disease,” said Nick Ricciardelli, organizer of the event, “We’re honored to support HFSC’s ALS Center of Excellence in their work to improve individuals’ quality of life and ultimately find a cure.”

Hospital for Special Care’s Charles H. Kaman Neuromuscular Center provides comprehensive care for patients living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular disorders. The center is leading the way to a cure as one of the largest Healey ALS Platform clinical trial sites in the country.

“The Charles H. Kaman Foundation Neuromuscular Center has grown in clinical care and research over the past year,” said Dr. Kevin Felice, Chief of the department of neuromuscular medicine, “This growth is not possible without the needed awareness and funds from our community. We are grateful for the support from Tom Dore’s Run the Runway.”
