Deborah

Determined to Walk Again

Deborah first came to Hospital for Special Care for inpatient rehabilitation to recover from emergency back surgery. She had been spending most of her day in bed in the acute care setting, unable to move and in a lot of pain. She felt nervous that she may never walk again.

The nurses, therapists and doctors at Hospital for Special Care welcomed her and helped bring her spirits up. They were determined to get her walking.

They weren’t playing, and I said, I’m not playing either.

She continued her rehabilitation as an outpatient, completing physical therapy twice a week. After a couple of months, she was standing and taking her first steps. Today she’s walking. She worked hard to recover and regain hope. Now, she tells everyone to come to Hospital for Special Care, “I couldn’t walk, and look at me now, oh yeah.”

I couldn’t walk, and look at me now, oh yeah.
