Annmarie's Incredible Recovery: Finding Strength Through Horses

Just after her third birthday, Annmarie experienced a massive seizure that left her fighting for her life. During a harrowing ambulance ride, paramedics had to restart her heart, ultimately saving her life. However, this was just the beginning of her journey.

When at the hospital, Annmarie was induced into a 5-day coma to help her body recover. When she woke up, she wasn’t quite herself, and after an MRI, it was revealed that she had an anoxic brain injury.

Annmarie spent nearly a month at the children’s hospital, where she received intensive care and support. Following her time there, she was transferred to the Hospital for Special Care where she achieved a remarkable milestone—she learned to walk again!

Her family came to Manes & Motions Therapeutic Riding Center to participate in equine-assisted therapy and continue her healing journey. Each visit to the center was filled with excitement; she would dash out of the car, eager to see her horse.

The connection between riding and therapy became clear in each lesson. The heavy work of horseback riding challenged her body while stimulating her brain, helping her regain strength and confidence. The joy she felt while riding was evident to everyone around her.
