Therapeutic Recreation
Recreation therapy utilizes a variety of activities to assist in improving or maintaining physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and leisure functioning. Recreational therapy helps you to reduce stress, depression and anxiety, recover gross and fine motor function, and improve reasoning abilities and social skills. We treat impairments such as brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, neuromuscular diseases, cardiac issues, as well as amputation, orthopedic conditions, pulmonary diseases, musculoskeletal injuries, developmental disabilities, and autism spectrum disorder.
How We Treat
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist’s assist in developing your physical and cognitive skills needed for leisure exploration and participation. Fitness and community re-integration are also incorporated into the recreation treatment plan. Group and/or individual treatment sessions, often in conjunction with our multidisciplinary therapy team of physical and occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists, help you to become as independent as possible.
Hospital-wide recreation programs that focus on maintaining or improving your quality of life are offered across the continuum. In addition, we offer a range of “in-room” resources, including movies, music, games, books on tape and more.
