NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (January 21, 2019) — Hospital for Special Care (HFSC) will provide scholarships totaling more than $30,000 in three healthcare disciplines: medicine; nursing and physical therapy. Applications are now available on-line or through schools in the Greater New Britain area including the towns of Berlin, Farmington, New Britain, Newington, Plainville and Southington as well as the University of Connecticut and Yale Schools of Medicine, UConn, University of Hartford, Sacred Heart University and Quinnipiac University physical therapy programs.
Completed applications must be submitted by mail and post marked by April 5, 2019. Applications postmarked after this date will not be considered. The amount of each scholarship is specified on the application. Scholarships include:
- The Florence Timura Medical Student Scholarship
- The Florence Timura Physical Therapy Scholarship
- The Rona Botwinick Nursing Scholarship
- The Florence Timura Nursing Scholarship
- The Dr. Michael Timura, III Nursing Scholarship
- The Paul Sutula Nursing Scholarship
- The Elizabeth Timura Gold Star Mother Nursing Scholarship
- The John Timura Nursing Scholarship
HFSC scholarships are funded through the Hospital for Special Care Foundation, Inc.’s Annual Giving Program, through the generous gifts of hospital employees, and, in part, through the Advancement for Nursing Endowment Fund established by Mr. Allen Botwinick and Mr. Mike Timura. Mr. Timura also recently established a fund to support professional development for Certified Nursing Assistants at HFSC to support training programs for these helping professionals at the hospital.
