Hospital for Special Care Nurses Awarded Nightingale Award for Nursing

NEW BRITAIN, CT – Three nurses at Hospital for Special Care (HFSC) were awarded the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing, an award for nurses who have gone beyond the call to provide excellent care to patients and to mentor other nurses, and who have a strong sense of community. The awards will be presented May 12, 2022 through a virtual presentation. Winners were selected through nominations for nursing excellence.

This year, the following were awarded:

Yaroslav ‘Yaro’ Ivakhnyuk, RN, BSN
Clinical Coordinator
Honora Dalamagas, RN, MSN Research Manager

 

Dawn Lepore, RN, MSN Informatics Nurse

 

Yaro is recognized for his excellence in coordinating unique long-term care for medically complex, trach and ventilator dependent patients. He uses a collaborative hands-on approach to care for patients’ respiratory care and skin and wound prevention and healing.

Honora is recognized for her innovation and dedication to clinical research in HFSC’s Neuromuscular Center. She has elevated the clinical trials program, introducing cutting-edge ALS research, such as the HEALEY ALS Platform Trial. She fosters trust by supporting and advocating for the well-being of her patients.

Dawn is recognized for using technology to provide the highest quality patient care. She combines her informatics and nursing background to solve workflow challenges, implement new technology and provide support to floor nurses using the new systems. She is a preceptor and mentor for nursing students interested in clinical informatics.
