Hospital for Special Care Hosts Ninth Annual Juried Photography Competition

 NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Nov. 26, 2018) – The Joy of Art! program at Hospital for Special Care (HSC) hosted its Ninth  Annual Juried Photography Competition with an opening reception Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018. The exhibition will run until Jan. 28, 2019.

The Joy of Art! program supports Hospital for Special Care’s mission of helping patients achieve enduring improvements in all aspects of their lives. We enhance the quality of patients’ lives through the power of art, and strengthen our bond with our community.

Three prizes totaling $325 were awarded this year, as well as Honorable Mentions awarded at the discretion of the Juror, Heather Whitehouse.

The Joy of Art! program offers multiple in-house art exhibitions affording patients, family members, visitors, staff, and members of the community the opportunity to enjoy beautiful artwork gracing the walls of the hospital, and fundraising through commission proceeds of sold exhibition artwork.

Creative Expressions, a form of art therapy, fosters patients’ interests with cultivation of the arts in mind. This form of art therapy affords patients the opportunity to expand their creativity in the areas of painting, drawing and photography. Participants will benefit from art’s unique allowance of self-exploration and healing. The group is run by volunteer artists and certified recreation therapists.
