Hospital for Special Care Hosts Juried Art Show Call for Submissions

The Joy of Art! Program at Hospital for Special Care is hosting a Juried Art Competition & Exhibition with a Zoom reception on Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

Artists may submit up to two original 2D rendered works in the following media: oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, mixed media, pen and ink, drawing or graphics. (No photography or sculptures). The size for the pieces is limited to 42 inches, including frame, in any direction. All works must be wired for hanging.

Artists may enter submission online by Friday, October 28, 2022 at: https://joyofart.givesmart.com, submission fees are $30 for one submission, $45 for two submissions. Pieces may be dropped off at Hospital for Special Care on Friday, October 28 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the HFSC Aquatic & Fitness Center.

In addition to our in-person exhibit, this year’s exhibit will be available for viewing and purchasing online at https://joyofart.givesmart.com through January 6, 2023. Due to the pandemic, the in-person exhibit is not open for public viewing, but will be enjoyed by patients, their families, and staff.

Bernadine Franco, Art Educator

Three prizes will be awarded, as well as Honorable Mentions awarded at the discretion of the Juror, Bernadine Franco. Bernadine Franco is an educator fascinated by the influence of women artists on the story of art. She engages the public with female visual artists defined through works that expose the astonishing beauty of women’s lives and empower the female perspective. Her media includes teaching, writing, speaking (in-person and through Beyond the Paint with Bernadine podcast) and designing tours at local museums.

Hospital for Special Care believes that art is an important factor in healing. By providing an opportunity for expression and communication of one’s emotions as well as improving state of mind with a calming and creative environment, art enhances quality of life. Through the Joy of Art’s Creative Expressions art therapy group we afford patients the opportunity to expand their creativity.
