Hospital for Special Care Honors Keturah Best with the Willow Award

November 27, 2024

NEW BRITAIN, CT–

Hospital for Special Care (HFSC) is proud to announce the winner of the prestigious Willow Award for Respiratory Therapist, Keturah Best. The Willow award is HFSC’s recognition program that honors and celebrates the compassionate, skillful and unwavering care provided by a respiratory therapist on a daily basis.

The Willow Award stems from the willow tree, a symbol of strength, flexibility and adaptability; reflecting the qualities that our respiratory therapist embody. Keturah’s work is a testament to the healing impact she has on the lives of her patients. She was one of the first respiratory therapist to take advantage of HFSC’s clinical ladder program, quickly achieving the top Level 4 status. She is also a vital member of the night shift leadership team.  She willingly takes on charge nurse responsibilities including but not limited to: overseeing daily unit operations, providing guidance to nursing staff and acting as a liaison between physicians, patients and families, whenever needed and is always a reliable resource for her colleagues during her shift.

Keturah is one of the hospital’s most sought-after preceptors for new staff, offering guidance, support and knowledge to help others succeed. Her commitment to lifelong learning is also evident in her recent certifications that include I/O Placement, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Her position as a role model for new staff, her advocacy for patients and her ability to adapt to the ever-evolving needs of the hospital make her an invaluable asset to the department and organization as a whole.
