Hospital for Special Care and The Lions Club Partner to Open Low Vision Center

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (May. 10, 2017) – Hospital for Special Care (HFSC) and the Lions Club are partnering to open the Lion’s Low Vision Center at Hospital for Special Care, a specially-modified environment offering comprehensive evaluations and treatments for patients diagnosed with vision loss. Starting May 12, 2017, HFSC occupational therapy practitioners will provide the skills and knowledge necessary for maximizing function in both adults and children with visual impairment.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates 14 million Americans ages 12 years and older have self-reported visual impairment and about 3.4 million Americans age 40 years and older are either blind or visually impaired.
After receiving a formal evaluation from a licensed occupational therapist, patients at the Low Vision Center will have access to educational classes, unique activities designed to promote independence and low-vision aids such as magnifiers, lighting and non-optical devices at no additional cost.
