Finding His Voice: Carti’s Journey to Growth, Independence, and Joy

July 1, 2026

When Cartier (Carti) was born in 2015, everything seemed perfectly normal. But as he approached 16 months old, his parents began noticing subtle signs that something was different. He wasn’t responding to social cues the way other children his age did. As he grew older and started school, those concerns became more apparent, and his family knew they needed additional support.

That search for answers led them to Hospital for Special Care. After a comprehensive evaluation, Carti’s care team partnered closely with his parents to create a plan tailored to his needs. He began attending the Autism Center’s Outpatient Program five days a week, spending four hours each day receiving physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

Over time, Carti made remarkable progress. Today, he attends therapy twice a week, where he continues building independence through everyday activities like cooking, cleaning, and strengthening social skills. He now thrives in a traditional school setting with specialized autism support.

When Carti first came to Hospital for Special Care, he was nonverbal. He struggled with everyday tasks such as dressing himself, brushing his teeth, and communicating his needs. He was also a very selective eater. Today, the transformation is extraordinary. Carti speaks in full sentences, rides his bike, cooks, and enthusiastically shares his favorite interests—including the solar system, history, and airplanes.

For his parents, Dorota and Marcin, one milestone stands above the rest.

“Our favorite memory is hearing Carti tell us, ‘I love you’ for the first time,” Dorota said.

Today, Carti fills their home with energy, curiosity, and conversation.

“He is the life of our house,” Dorota said. “We wouldn’t change anything.”
