Connecticut's largest statewide nursing recognition program honors two nurses who go beyond the call
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (May 10, 2011) – New Britain-based Hospital for Special Care (HSC) announced two recipients of the Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing. Michele Chambrello, AD, RN, Hospital for Special Care, and Marilin Rosario, AD, RN, Hospital for Special Care, were both honored for their exceptional contributions to their professions.
"We are very proud of our staff at Hospital for Special Care, as this prestigious award recognizes the scope of Michele's and Marilin's specialized disciplines as well as their ability to go above and beyond in providing excellent, holistic care for their patients," said David Crandall, HSC President and CEO. "I'd like to congratulate each of them for their dedication to their field as they inspire future nurses and serve as great representatives of our nursing program."
As an exemplary charge nurse, preceptor and change agent to the new Cardiac Medical Unit at Hospital for Special Care, Chambrello infuses positive attitudes into her peers, and she relentlessly advocates for her patients' needs to ensure that they receive optimal care during their hospital stay, discharge and beyond. She has been instrumental in the opening of the Cardiac Medical Unit and has helped institute bedside rounding within the unit. Chambrello has been the recipient of the hospital's Employee of the Month award. As a panelist at the Connecticut League for Nursing's annual Student Day, she fielded questions about the new graduate experiences with over 800 nursing students. She was a recent guest speaker to elementary-aged students about pacemakers and her role as a cardiac nurse. In addition to this, she is an accomplished pianist who enjoys sharing her love of music with patients.
With more than 20 years of healthcare experience, Rosario demonstrates exemplary clinical judgment and strong communication skills. As an evening staff nurse and charge nurse, she works on the Respiratory Step-Down Unit and Neurobehavioral Unit at Hospital for Special Care. Although these units differ with one focusing on the care of ventilator-dependent adults with complex medical needs and the other specializing in care of patients with acquired brain injuries, Rosario excels at both disciplines. The prolonged and devastating illnesses her patients have experienced require an extraordinary nurse, and Rosario exudes caring and persistence in understanding each of her patient's diverse needs. She contributes to her community by helping at local school activities as a healthcare volunteer. She also works as an advocate for seniors at her church by assisting them with coordinating their medical appointments, and when needed, accompanying them as well.
On May 5, 2011, Chambrello and Rosario will be honored at the Nightingale Awards Ceremony taking place at the Hartford Marriott Downtown as part of a group of 100 nurses recognized for their exceptional and distinguished contributions to their healthcare fields.
