Attorney at Updike, Kelly & Spellacy of Hartford and active community member selected for board
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Jan. 31, 2012) – Hospital for Special Care (HSC) is proud to announce the appointment of John C. King, Principal, Updike, Kelly & Spellacy, P.C., as Chairman of Center of Special Care, Inc.’s Governance Committee. King was officially appointed to this post at the Hospital's 14th Annual Meeting of Corporators & Donor Appreciation Reception.
“John’s extensive experience within the state and federal administrative system will be immensely valued in his new role on HSC’s board,” said David Crandall, President and CEO, Hospital for Special Care. “We are very enthusiastic to have such a knowledgeable member of governance, and one who is also actively involved in various leadership roles in many professional and community associations.”
As Chairman of the Governance Committee for the Hospital’s parent company, John King, Esq., ensures that the committee meets its many responsibilities, which include oversight of the Board’s structure and function, institutional ethics and conflict of interest policies, the education of board members, as well as recruitment, selection, and nomination of board candidates.
King has extensive trial experience, both court and jury, and appellate experience in both the state and federal systems. Additionally, he has vast expertise in the area of municipal defense as he has litigated on behalf of many of Connecticut’s municipalities including Hartford, Bridgeport, New Britain, Middletown, Suffield and Newtown. Also, he has represented many clients before the Connecticut General Assembly. He presently participates as a guest lecturer in Judge Freedman’s Legislative Practice class at the Quinnipiac Law School in Hamden. He is a past president of the Hartford County Bar Association.
King remains active within the community as a member of the Board of Directors for several organizations including the Greater New Britain Chamber of Commerce and formerly Community Mental Health Affiliates. He also is a member of the Executive Board and Past President of the New Britain Municipal Economic Development Agency, a Founder and Past President of the Mooreland Hill School in Kensington, a former member of the Board of Governors for the Fairfield College Preparatory School and has chaired the Personnel Committee for the Democratic State Central Committee. He is a past president of Pathway Senderos, New Britain’s Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Program, for which he was presented a citation by the Connecticut General Assembly in 2011.
