William PesceNEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Nov. 10, 2011) – Hospital for Special Care (HSC) has appointed William J. Pesce, DO, to the position of Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for the hospital.

In his new post, Pesce will now oversee inpatient and outpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation services including spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury, cerebrovascular accident and orthopedic trauma patients.

"With his extensive expertise in neurologic and orthopedic rehabilitation, Dr. Pesce is a tremendous asset to the hospital, and our patients, and I am confident that he will continue this leadership in his expanded role," said John J. Votto, DO, FCCP, president and CEO, HSC. "He has been instrumental in remaining at the forefront of spasticity management in spinal cord and other neurologically compromised patients, as well as bringing his expertise in treating patients with various musculoskeletal conditions."

Pesce has specialized experience in the areas of neurologic and orthopedic rehabilitation, spasticity management, electrodiagnosis, musculoskeletal disorders and pain management.

Since joining HSC in 1993, Pesce has been Attending Physiatrist, a position he has held since 2006. Presently, he also is an Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Pesce graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.

Pesce currently resides in Southington, Conn.
