Press Release

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (June 11, 2010) – Hospital for Special Care (HSC) welcomes Jason Jakubowski, who has joined the hospital as Vice President of Government Relations.

“As a former HSC board member, Jason brings valuable perspective to the hospital, and he is aware of the challenges and opportunities within our facility as well as the current political environment,” said David Crandall, HSC President and CEO. “With Jason’s HSC board experience and knowledge of Connecticut government, he will be a great asset to our organization and its constituents.”

Jakubowski will be the successor of Joseph H. Harper, Jr., former CT State Senator and Deputy State Treasurer who held this position at HSC since 2005.

“Joe has always recognized the need for this hospital – as a citizen, as a senator and as an employee,” said Crandall. “As an avid, compassionate supporter during his time on the Connecticut State Senate Appropriations Committee, Joe realized the profound cost-savings and quality care that HSC provides to the citizens of Connecticut. His contributions are commemorated by our hospital entrance sign and boulevard, which bare his name, and he remains a good friend and trusted advisor to HSC.”

Jakubowski earned both a bachelor’s degree in political science and a Master of Public Affairs from the University of Connecticut. As a veteran of state and local government, he served two terms on the New Britain City Council and two terms as City Treasurer.

“Joining HSC means a lot to me both professionally and personally,” said Jakubowski. “Growing up in New Britain, my brother and I would ride our bikes to the hospital and volunteer once or twice a week. Fifteen years later, I am back at the hospital and in my old neighborhood. It’s like I’ve come full-circle.”

Prior to joining the hospital, Jakubowski worked as the Director of Corporate & Community Development at Charter Oak State College where he continues to teach political science. He is a 2007 graduate of Leadership Greater Hartford and was named one of the region’s “40 Under 40” by the Hartford Business Journal in 2008.

Jakubowski currently resides in West Hartford with his wife and five children.
