Partner at Halloran & Sage and active member of New Britain community selected as Chairman 

Carl FicksNEW BRITAIN, Conn. (August 1, 2011) – Hospital for Special Care (HSC) recently announced that it has appointed Carl R. Ficks, Jr., Partner, Halloran & Sage, LLP, as Chairman of its Board of Directors. Ficks was officially named Chairman at the Hospital's 14th Annual Meeting of Corporators and Donor Appreciation Reception.

"In addition to his business savvy, Carl has a strong sense of community and fully understands Hospital for Special Care's mission," said David Crandall, president and CEO, Hospital for Special Care. "We are pleased to have such an experienced chair lead our board as we continue to execute our highly-focused and successful strategic plan."

As Chairman, Ficks will preside at all meetings of the board and is responsible for the overall governance and management affairs of the Hospital. Ficks also will ensure that HSC continues to stay true to its mission by anticipating and being responsive to the changing needs of its communities and a changing healthcare environment by creating an innovative, fiscally-sound, cost-effective system of care.

Ficks concentrates his practice in the construction, municipal and employment law fields at Halloran & Sage, LLP, a full service Connecticut-based law firm representing businesses and individuals in a diverse array of essential legal matters. Founded in 1935, Halloran & Sage has offices in Hartford, Middletown, New London, Westport and Washington, D.C. and an affiliated lobbying and consulting firm, Halloran & Sage Government Affairs LLC.

Over the years, Ficks has been extremely active within the New Britain community. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the New Britain Boys & Girls Club and the New Britain-Berlin Rotary Club, and has served as a fundraiser for many local organizations.
